FlukeGuard

FlukeGuard is a powerful treatment designed specifically for Koi (Cyprinus carpio) to combat common parasites like gill flukes (Dactylogyrus), skin flukes (Gyrodactylus), tapeworms, and Hexamita. With its highly concentrated 20% active formula, FlukeGuard is four times stronger than typical 5% fluke treatments, meaning you use less product for the same effectiveness.

Key Features

  • Highly Concentrated: Four times stronger than lower-concentration alternatives, making it more efficient and cost-effective.
  • Broad-Spectrum Protection: Effectively targets gill and skin flukes, as well as tapeworms and Hexamita.
  • Safe for Beneficial Bacteria: Maintains the ecological balance of your pond by not disrupting good bacteria.
  • Temperature Flexibility: Effective across all water temperatures.
  • Easy Feeding: Does not interfere with feeding routines during treatment.

    FlukeGuard™ Directions

    Step 1: Determine the Dosage

Using the chart below, calculate the amount of FlukeGuard needed based on your pond’s volume:

    Volume (Gallons)FlukeGuard Needed (grams)
    1000.295
    1,0002.95
    2,0005.9
    5,00014.75
    10,00029.5

    Step 2: Prepare the Solution

    • Measure the required amount of FlukeGuard using an accurate scale.
    • Mix the measured FlukeGuard in a container of warm water (not hot) and stir into a slurry.

Step 3: Apply to the Pond

    • Slowly pour the dissolved FlukeGuard solution into the pond.
    • Add it near the return or aeration system to help distribute the medication evenly.

    Step 4: Monitor the Pond

    • Keep aeration running throughout treatment to maintain oxygen levels.
    • Observe your koi for signs of stress or unusual behavior.

    Step 5: Repeat if Necessary

    • For heavy infestations, a second dose may be applied after 7 days using the same procedure.

    Precautions

    • Do Not Overdose: Overdosing can lead to fish fatalities.
    • Avoid Concurrent Medications: Do not use FlukeGuard with other treatments.
    • Turn Off Equipment: Turn off UV sterilizers, ozone generators, protein skimmers, and carbon filters for the full 7-day treatment period.
    • Handle with Care: Always wear gloves and goggles when handling FlukeGuard.

  • Terminate + FlukeGuard Instructions

Instructions for Using Terminate™ With FlukeGuard™

Alternate Aqua Meds Protocol: When treating for both common protozoan parasites and flukes, FlukeGuard™ may be combined with the third and final Terminate™ treatment as described below.

    • Day 1:
      • Water Change: Perform a 25% or larger water change before treatment.
      • Dosage: Add 100 mL of Terminate™ per 1,000 gallons of pond water.
      • Aeration: Increase aeration and water circulation, if possible.
    • Day 2 (Approximately 24 Hours Later):
      • Water Change: Perform another 25% or larger water change before treatment.
      • Dosage: Add 100 mL of Terminate™ per 1,000 gallons of pond water.
      • Aeration: Continue increased aeration and water circulation.
    • Day 3 (Approximately 24 Hours Later):
      • Water Change: Perform another 25% or larger water change before the final treatment.
      • Preparation: In a clean container, combine:
        • 100 mL of Terminate™ per 1,000 gallons of pond water
        • 3 grams of FlukeGuard™ per 1,000 gallons of pond water
Mix thoroughly until the FlukeGuard™ is well dispersed.
      • Application: Distribute the mixture around the pond in areas of good water circulation so it disperses evenly throughout the system.
      • Aeration: Maintain strong aeration and water circulation.
    • After the Day 3 Terminate™ + FlukeGuard™ Treatment:
      • Water Changes: Do not perform water changes for 5 full days after the combined treatment.
      • Pond Maintenance: Avoid routine pond maintenance that would remove or significantly dilute the FlukeGuard™ during this 5-day period.
      • Aeration: Continue good aeration and water circulation.

    Water Conditioner Compatibility

When treating replacement water containing chlorine or chloramine, use a simple sodium thiosulfate-based dechlorinator such as Aqua Meds® Just Dechlor™ or Aqua Meds® Armor™. Avoid water conditioners that bind or detoxify ammonia or sulfoxylate-based water conditioner formulas during Terminate™ treatment, as they may interfere with the treatment chemistry.

    Additional Treatment Notes

    • Run normal biological filtration and maintain good water circulation throughout treatment.
    • Turn off UV sterilizers and ozone during treatment.
    • Remove activated carbon and other chemical filtration media.
    • Avoid using salt during Terminate™ treatment. If salt is already present, the level should not exceed 0.05%.
    • Use only at water temperatures of 50°F or higher.

    Storage

    • Store Terminate™ between 50°F and 110°F.
    • Store FlukeGuard™ in a cool, dry location in its tightly closed original container.

Note: The Terminate™ and FlukeGuard™ combination provides broad-spectrum treatment for many common protozoan parasites, external fungus, and skin and gill flukes. Always know your true pond volume and measure each treatment accurately.
