Treatments

  1. Koi Ulcers are a bacterial infection and must be treated with an antibiotic. Feeding a good medicated food like Medi-Koi for ten to fourteen days is the easiest treatment. However, some advanced ulcers that do not heal need antibiotic injections. Contact your local Vet for help.
  2. If you can catch your koifish the ulcer can be cleaned just once with hydrogen peroxide on a cotton swab.

Note: Make sure the hydrogen peroxide does not get into the eyes, gills or mouth of your koifish.

Here are six easy steps to help prevent the cause of Koi Ulcers:

  1. When you have a koi ulcer outbreak treat all your koifish for flukes with Aqua Prazi for seven days. Treat all your koi and pond fish for flukes every spring and every fall.
  2. Check your koi and pond fish for anchor worm and fish lice. If found, treat your koi pond with Anchors Away.
  3. Reduce deadly ulcer causing “Aeromonas, Pseudomas” in your koi pond to levels so low they become harmless to your Koi and pond fish by treating your fish pond water with Aqua MedZyme™.
  4. Remove sharp objects from your koi fish pond that could damage the “slime coat” of your koi.
  5. Keep your pond water fresh with at least a 10% water change once a week. Keep the sludge from building up on the bottom of your koi pond by cleaning and/or using a good sludge remover like Aqua Meds Sludge Remover.
  6. To help protect your koi and pond fish from poor water conditions all winter use Aqua Meds Arctic Blend.

Just by following these six easy steps you can greatly reduce Koi Ulcers.
